Syphilis

Syphilis is a very nasty bacterial infection that can spread easily between sexual partners.  The open sores that appear with this disease are the perfect breeding ground, and allow the infection to spread easily.  This type of disease manifests in three core stages, and will go into a dormant phase after a period of time. However, during this time Syphilis can cause severe damage to your body, and vital organs.

The initial symptoms with Syphilis are painless, but highly infectious sores that are found around your genitals, or mouth.  These sores can last for several weeks, and everyone who comes into contact with them will also be infected.  They can appear both inside, and outside of your body, and are often very small lumps.  You may also experience a swelling of the lymph nodes in your groin are, and although this will not be painful they may be tender.

Although the sores will often heal themselves, and you may forget about them the disease will be taking hold.  When syphilis is not noticed, or simply ignored it will have serious consequences on your body in the future.   You may feel fine for several weeks, and believe that the disease has gone away; however, this is not the case. As the bacteria begin to flow through your body you will begin to feel sick, and may have headaches.

You will soon see a rash begin to appear, and these brown sores will range in size, and shape. Although the rash is often not itchy, it can be widespread, and in extreme cases the rash can cover the entirety of your body. However, in most cases it is on the palms of your hands, and soles of your feet. Alongside the rash you will experience a sore throat, fatigue and fever. Overall ill health will be very common, and you may experience patchy hair loss.

If you leave this disease untreated it will go into a dormant stage where you will be fooled into believing that you are cured. In fact this is the most dangerous stage, and whilst you are getting on with your life the Syphilis bacteria is destroying your vital organs.  This can be all of them including your brain, and you will be unaware of the damage it is doing until it is too late.

During the period when you believe the disease to have vanished you can still infect people, and during this time a pregnant mother can infect her fetus. Your eyesight, hearing, and mental health will be affected, and you may suffer from severe neurological problems. Your vital organs will begin to shut down, and you will have several non-healing skin ulcers.  Bone pain is a common symptom of syphilis, and is incredibly painful to have.

If the bacteria attacks your brain, or heart both of these will be devastating, and you may suffer from acute memory loss, and heart attacks. During the early stages syphilis can be treated, however, towards the end often the only thing that can be done is for any further damage to be stopped. The damage that it would have already done is irreversible. If you leave syphilis you will die, and often this is a slow and painful death.
