Herpes is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases that affect sexually active people all over the world. You do not need to have a huge number of different partners, and in fact it can be caught by having sex with just one. There are two main types of herpes both of which are caused by the herpes virus. They are genital herpes, and oral herpes, and you may suffer from either one, however, both are transmitted through skin.

The symptoms for genital herpes are very similar in both men, and women, and can lie undetected for several years. The overall symptoms do range from very mild itching and redness to severe cases of ulcers, and blisters. Every case of herpes is different, and you may be experiencing different symptoms from other sufferers. The most common symptoms that you may be experiencing are itching, and redness.
You may experience pain when urinating, and women will often have a vaginal discharge. You will have a fever, and feel generally unwell, and your body will ache. You will begin to see genital sores, and ulcers appearing, which may burst, and cause extreme pain. These ulcers are often found on the thighs, rectum, and genital areas of your body, and can begin to spread. Some women may also find that these painful ulcers are on their cervix.
Although the initial ulcers will clear up, and hopefully leave no scarring the herpes virus will continue to live on. It attaches itself to your nerve root, and over time will travel back down and be present again on your skin. Although the symptoms will be very similar to the first time you experienced them, however, you will have a tingling sensation just before the outbreak occurs.
The rashes that appear with the herpes can be painful as your skin begins to crack, and become sore. You may experience localized chaffing of particular areas of the body, and this will result in redness, and painful areas of your body. Although it is often believed that herpes will only appear on the genitals that is not the case. In extreme cases it can appear on the backs of your fingers, knees, thighs, and face.
Herpes can be extremely dangerous to new born babies, and pregnant mothers should be extremely concerned if they contract it whilst carrying their child. There are also significant links between herpes, and HIV. Not only does it make the herpes virus easier to spread, but also it can make HIV sufferers even sicker. Future outbreaks of herpes may not seem to be as severe due to your body fighting the virus.
Although herpes is not life threatening to you it can be very painful, and disruptive to your life. You may be embarrassed to go out in public if the rashes and ulcers are in places that can be seen. You may also find it very painful to go about your daily routines. There are certain triggers that may cause future outbreaks, and you should try to avoid these. Although there is no cure for herpes you can find treatments that will help with the problems, and symptoms caused.
